Battlefield Veteran's Studio Shuts Down, "But We Are Not Giving Up"

Battlefield veteran David Goldfarb's studio, The Outsiders, is shutting down as part of wider cuts at its parent company, Funcom. The Outsiders, founded in 2015, had previously faced closure when its game Darkborn was canceled in 2020. Funcom then took a majority ownership of the studio, which later released the rhythm-action game Metal: Hellsinger in 2022. Despite the closure, Goldfarb and the team are not giving up and will try to continue their work in a new form. Goldfarb expressed gratitude for the team and partnerships that made Metal: Hellsinger possible, calling it a "high point" for him personally. The Outsiders had around 60 employees at its Stockholm office. Funcom recently announced that this year's Dune: Awakening was its biggest release in the company's 32-year history, but the publisher still had to make job cuts. Goldfarb is known for his work on the Battlefield franchise during his time at DICE, as well as his role as game director for the popular Payday 2 at Overkill Software before founding The Outsiders.
