Steam is dropping Windows 32-bit support in 2026
Valve, the company behind the popular gaming platform Steam, has announced that it will discontinue support for 32-bit versions of Windows in 2026. This decision is driven by the fact that Steam's core features rely on system drivers and libraries that are not supported on 32-bit Windows. The 32-bit version of Windows 10 is currently the only version of the operating system still supported by Steam, but Microsoft is set to end its support next month. Valve, however, will continue to support 64-bit versions of Windows 10 and Windows 11. While users will still be able to play 32-bit games through Steam, they will no longer be able to install the Steam app on a 32-bit version of Windows. This change is expected to have a minimal impact, as Valve's data shows that only 0.01% of all systems reported through its Steam Hardware Survey use the 32-bit version of Windows 10.
