The tournament was a qualifier for the 2026 World Chess Championship Candidates event, with two spots up for grabs. Giri, known for his tendency to play for draws, secured the $90,000 first prize with an unbeaten 8/11 score. The surprise qualifiers for the Candidates were Matthias Blübaum, Germany's second-best player, and the five-time Dutch champion. Giri's key game was against the controversial American player Hans Niemann, who needed a win but had his attacking ideas thwarted in the opening.
