DoorDash will use Waymo’s robotaxis for delivery in Phoenix

DoorDash has partnered with Waymo, a self-driving technology company, to use Waymo's autonomous Jaguar electric vehicles for deliveries in Phoenix, Arizona. This collaboration is an example of delivery companies exploring autonomous options to reduce costs associated with human drivers. Waymo's vehicles will initially be used to deliver orders from DoorDash's DashMart stores, with plans to expand to more restaurants, retailers, and grocery stores over time. Customers will be able to use the DoorDash app to unlock the vehicle's trunk and retrieve their orders. This partnership raises questions about customer acceptance, as there will be no human driver to interact with, and customers may need to go to the street to collect their orders. While Waymo has previously partnered with Uber Eats for deliveries in Phoenix, this collaboration marks a new direction for the company, which had previously focused on developing its own delivery business.
