‘Some brass neck’: Rayner’s allies rebuke Cleverly over council tax criticisms
In a response to criticisms from James Cleverly, the shadow housing secretary, allies of Angela Rayner, the deputy prime minister, have accused him of "political opportunism." Rayner recently acquired a seaside flat in Hove, East Sussex, for over £700,000, which is subject to a 100% council tax premium on second homes, introduced in April. A Labour source has stated that Cleverly's questions about Rayner's council tax arrangements are motivated by political motivations rather than genuine concerns.
