Premier League wants minimum six-point penalty for serious breach of planned spending rules

The Premier League is proposing a new spending regulation system, known as the squad-cost ratio (SCR), which would restrict clubs' spending on transfers, player wages, and agent fees to 85% of their revenue. Under the draft proposals, a minimum sanction of a six-point deduction would be imposed on clubs that breach the SCR by 30%. Additional points could be deducted for more serious breaches, with a sliding scale for the severity of the overspend. Smaller breaches would be punished with a financial penalty tied to the percentage of the overspend. The Premier League has not yet commented on the proposed system, which is currently being shared with clubs. The goal is to have the new spending regulations in place for the upcoming season.
