No, Google isn’t done with smart displays, or at least not yet

Google hasn't forgotten about smart displays, according to the company's Home and Nest boss. While no new Nest Hub devices were announced during last week's smart home news, the existing Nest Hub Max and second-generation Nest Hub will be updated with the new Gemini conversational platform, including the Gemini Live mode. Google's product management director, Anish Kattukaran, stated that the company remains "deeply committed" to the smart display category and promises more news to come next year. He described smart displays as an "incredible form factor" for Gemini, with their screens, cameras, and ability to interact and visualize information. However, Kattukaran did not provide a specific timeline for when new Google smart displays might be released, only saying that users should "expect that we'll have news to share there soon." The last new Nest Hub device was the second-generation model, which was released four years ago in 2019.
