Mexico is considering slapping an eight percent tax on violent video games

Mexico's government is considering imposing an 8% tax on video games with mature content, defined as those with a C or D rating under the country's age classification system. The proposed tax would apply to both digital and physical copies of affected games, as well as in-game purchases and microtransactions. The measure was approved by Mexico's Chamber of Deputies and will now be debated in the Senate before a November 15 deadline to submit a budget proposal. The government claims that recent studies have found a link between the use of violent video games and higher levels of aggression, as well as negative social and psychological effects among adolescents. However, the report also acknowledged some positive associations between video games and motor learning and building resilience.
