World Rugby chief hails Women’s World Cup as ‘the greatest of all-time’

World Rugby chief Alan Gilpin has hailed the 2025 Women's Rugby World Cup as "the greatest of all-time," stating that the men's tournament can learn from the way the women's event "showcased the best of our sport." The tournament saw England become world champions after beating Canada 33-13 in front of a record crowd of 81,885 at Twickenham's Allianz Stadium, with a total of 444,465 tickets sold during the event. Gilpin described the occasion as a "generational sporting moment" and a "huge privilege" to witness, calling it "historic, special, and incredible." He emphasized that the tournament has "gone stratospheric, broken records, changed perceptions, and showcased the very best of our sport and our players." Gilpin also suggested that the men's tournament could learn from the way the women's event highlighted the players' personalities, stating that it has shown young people that in rugby, "you can be yourself" and that "individuality and diversity are celebrated."
