Mastodon is adding Bluesky-like starter packs
Mastodon, a federated social network, is introducing its own version of Bluesky's "Starter Packs" feature, which aims to make it easier for new users to find people to follow. Mastodon's "Packs" will allow users to have a say in whether they appear in the packs and will provide a more "neutral" way to remove oneself from a pack once added. The developer, Mastodon gGmbH, is collaborating with other Fediverse developers to create a Fediverse Enhancement Proposal (FEP) that will allow the feature to be used by any developer building an app on ActivityPub. This move by Mastodon is seen as a positive step, as Bluesky's Starter Packs feature has been one of its better additions, and Meta has even added a clone of it to Threads.
