Dolby Vision 2 goes beyond HDR with more AI and ‘authentic motion’ smoothing

Dolby Vision 2, the next generation of the HDR format, aims to go beyond just optimizing tone and brightness levels. It introduces "Content Intelligence" tools that use AI to automatically adjust picture quality based on the content, viewing environment, and device. The new version includes features like Precision Black for improved clarity in darker scenes, Light Sense for adjusting picture quality using ambient light detection, and bi-directional tone mapping for better control over display capabilities. Dolby Vision 2 also focuses on "Authentic Motion," a tool that allows creators to control motion smoothing on a shot-by-shot basis to maintain a cinematic look. Hisense will be the first brand to launch TVs with Dolby Vision 2, and the format is expected to be adopted by other major TV manufacturers soon. The new version will also introduce a two-tier system, with Dolby Vision 2 Max for premium TVs and the standard Dolby Vision 2 for mainstream models.
