Meta removes Facebook Group for tracking ICE agents after DOJ pressure

Meta, the parent company of Facebook, has removed a group that was allegedly used to track and target U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents operating in Chicago. The removal came after the Department of Justice (DOJ) contacted Facebook, according to Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi. Meta confirmed the group's removal, stating that it violated the company's policies against coordinated harm, but did not confirm the DOJ's involvement. The article also mentions that ICE agents have been reportedly moving through Chicago with facial coverings, no name tags, and sometimes in vehicles without license plates, despite a U.S. District Judge's ruling that all ICE agents who are not undercover must display visible identification while operating in the Chicagoland area. The DOJ has also demanded that other tech companies remove content that the current administration deems critical of its immigration policies and practices. Earlier this month, Apple removed the ICEBlock app, which was used for tracking the movements of immigration agents, from the App Store following similar pressure from Bondi.
