UK, France and Germany move to reimpose UN sanctions on Iran

The United Kingdom, France, and Germany have taken steps to reimpose United Nations sanctions on Iran. The three countries, known as the E3, have triggered a process that could lead to the restoration of sanctions within 30 days. The E3 nations have cited Iran's nuclear program as a threat to international peace and security as the justification for this action. The move comes amid escalating tensions between Iran and the West, as well as concerns over Iran's compliance with the 2015 nuclear deal, officially known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA). The decision to trigger the sanctions process was made in response to Iran's continued breaches of the JCPOA, including its recent announcement that it would no longer abide by the deal's limits on uranium enrichment. The E3 have expressed their commitment to preserving the JCPOA, but have also emphasized the need to hold Iran accountable for its actions.
