SpaceX launches 10,000th Starlink internet satellite

SpaceX has reached a significant milestone by launching its 10,000th Starlink satellite into low Earth orbit. The company launched 56 additional satellites on Sunday, bringing the total number of Starlink satellites launched to date to over 10,000. However, only around 8,608 of these satellites are currently operational, as Starlink satellites have a lifespan of approximately five years before being intentionally de-orbited. SpaceX has approval to launch 12,000 Starlink satellites, with plans to eventually have over 30,000 in orbit. This ambitious project aims to provide fast, low-latency internet access to people around the world. Other companies, such as Amazon's Project Kuiper and initiatives in Europe and China, are also developing their own plans for satellite internet mega-constellations, raising concerns about the potential overcrowding of low Earth orbit.
