Trump jokingly asked Rolex executives if tariffs prompted US Open invite, CEO says

In a letter to Senator Elizabeth Warren, Rolex CEO Jean-Frederic Dufour clarified that US President Donald Trump's remarks about the company's US Open invitation were made "in jest." Trump had asked Rolex executives whether he would have been invited to the event's VIP box if he had imposed steep tariffs on Swiss exports just weeks earlier. The senator had raised concerns about the decision to invite Trump, including the possibility that Rolex was trying to "curry favor" with the administration. Dufour stressed that the president's comments were not to be taken seriously and that Rolex's invitation was extended in the normal course of business.
