The US withdraws from dozens of international bodies, including climate-focused organizations
In a new executive order, the Trump administration has declared that the United States will withdraw from 66 international organizations and bodies, including several focused on tackling climate change. The targeted organizations include the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, and others focused on trade, conservation, reproductive rights, and immigration. The White House claims that the organizations the US is leaving "promote radical climate policies, global governance and ideological programs that conflict with US sovereignty and economic strength." However, the actual impact of the US withdrawals is uncertain, as the US remains involved with some organizations, and many of the exited bodies were deliberative or had marginal US involvement. The decision to withdraw from these international organizations further confirms the Trump administration's disregard for climate change and its stance against global collaboration. Former Vice President Al Gore criticized the move, stating that it "is undoing decades of hard-won diplomacy, attempting to undermine climate science and sowing distrust around the world."
