Meta Ray-Ban Display hands-on: Discreet and intuitive

Meta has unveiled a new pair of smart glasses called the Ray-Ban Display, which offer a discreet and intuitive display experience. Unlike previous smart glasses, the Ray-Ban Display features a single display on the right lens, providing a 20-degree field of view that is much smaller than the 70-degree field of view of Meta's Orion prototype. This smaller display, however, results in a sharper image quality and a more practical design for everyday wear. The glasses are equipped with a Meta Neural Band wristband that uses sensors to detect subtle hand and wrist movements, allowing users to navigate the interface through intuitive gestures. The display can show incoming texts, navigation instructions, calendar information, and even enable video calls with live captions for improved accessibility. While the Ray-Ban Display is not as advanced as Meta's Orion prototype in terms of augmented reality capabilities, the company believes this "display AI glasses" category is a separate and more practical approach for everyday use. At $799, the Ray-Ban Display offers a more affordable and discreet smart glasses experience compared to previous offerings.
