You can pick ChatGPT's older AI models again

OpenAI has introduced new model options for ChatGPT, allowing users to choose between several GPT-5 variants and previous OpenAI models. The model picker now includes three GPT-5 choices: Auto, Fast, and Thinking. The Auto option is likely the standard version, while the Fast and Thinking versions offer different response characteristics. Additionally, GPT-4o has been reinstated as a default option for all paying users. OpenAI had previously removed GPT-4o with the launch of GPT-5, but faced criticism from users who preferred the older model's personality. The company has promised to provide ample notice before deprecating GPT-4o in the future. Users can also access other older models, such as o3 and 4.1, by toggling the "Show additional models" setting. The GPT-5 Thinking model now has a weekly rate limit of 3,000 messages, after which users can switch to the GPT-5 Thinking mini version. OpenAI is also working to update the personality of GPT-5 to make it warmer, while avoiding the perceived annoyance of GPT-4o.
