Claude can now edit and create files, including Excel spreadsheets

Anthropic has announced a significant update to its AI chatbot, Claude, allowing users to create and edit various files, including Excel spreadsheets, documents, PowerPoint presentations, and PDFs. This new functionality is currently available as a feature preview for Max, Team, and Enterprise subscribers, with plans to roll it out to Pro subscribers in the coming weeks. The update transforms Claude from an advisor into an active collaborator, as the chatbot can now write code and run programs to produce the files and analyses users need. Anthropic says this feature demonstrates their goal of making sophisticated multi-step work accessible through conversation, reducing the gap between idea and execution. To access the preview, users can toggle the "Upgraded file creation and analysis" option in the settings menu. They can then upload or describe the file they want Claude to create or edit, and download the final result once they're satisfied.
