The Light Flip Phone Aims to Be Luddites' Best Weapon Against AI

If you can’t stand AI proliferation on both iOS and Android, your best option to excise the chatbots may be getting rid of touchscreens altogether. Light, the company behind several pared-down cellular devices, finally showed off its first clamshell phone that’s so dedicated to eliminating distractions that it doesn’t even have an exterior display. Like all past Light phones, the new Light Flip runs on a custom version of Android dubbed LightOS. The software will let you access various simplified apps, including music and podcasts, but there’s no touchscreen. Instead, you’ll need to use the phone’s directional pad as well as the triangle and “X” buttons to navigate the Light Flip’s internal 2.8-inch OLED display. Below those keys, the phone uses a dial pad, which you’ll use to input text. At the very least, the Light Flip will help you determine if your 2000s-era typing muscle memory is still as sharp as it was 20 years ago. While the phone harkens back to an earlier age when Nokia and Motorola ruled the scene, the Light Flip still bears a few modern amenities, including USB-C for charging and a headphone jack.
