Tesla under investigation for door handles that trap people inside
Tesla is under investigation by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) for faulty electronic door handles that can trap people inside their vehicles, particularly children. The investigation focuses on an estimated 174,290 Model Y SUVs, where the door handles can become inoperable due to low-voltage battery problems. NHTSA has received numerous complaints from Tesla owners, including reports of children becoming trapped inside the vehicles. The agency is concerned about the reliability of the power supply for the door locks and the lack of a reliable manual way to open the doors from the inside, especially in emergency situations. This investigation is the latest to target Tesla, which is also being examined for issues related to its partially autonomous driving technology and remote parking feature.
