Australia off to a flyer with Gardner’s rapid century in defeat of New Zealand

In the opening match of the Women's Cricket World Cup, Australia defeated New Zealand by 89 runs. Batting first, Australia posted a massive total of 326 runs in 49.3 overs, thanks to a blistering century from Ashleigh Gardner. Gardner's knock of 115 runs off just 83 balls, including 16 fours and a six, was the third-fastest century in the tournament's history. This was also the first time a batter batting at No. 6 or lower scored a century in the World Cup. Despite a valiant effort from New Zealand, they were ultimately bowled out for 237 runs, falling short of the target by a significant margin.
