‘I felt the energy’: Granit Xhaka joins Sunderland on three-year contract

Granit Xhaka, the Swiss midfielder, has joined Sunderland on a three-year contract from Bayer Leverkusen. The transfer fee is reportedly an initial £13 million, with an additional £4 million in potential add-ons. Xhaka, 32, was a key part of Leverkusen's successful 2023-24 season, which saw them win the Bundesliga title, the DFB-Pokal, and reach the Europa League final. Sunderland have also agreed a deal to sign NEC goalkeeper Robin Roefs. Xhaka expressed his readiness to contribute his experience to the Sunderland team, saying he felt the energy and is excited to help the club.
