NVIDIA is investing up to $100 billion in OpenAI to build 10 gigawatts of AI data centers
NVIDIA is investing up to $100 billion in OpenAI, the maker of ChatGPT, to build at least 10 gigawatts of AI data centers using NVIDIA chips and systems. The strategic partnership aims to create new AI breakthroughs and empower people and businesses with them at scale. The first phase of this plan is expected to come online in the second half of 2026, using NVIDIA's Vera Rubin platform, which is promised to be a significant improvement over the current-gen Blackwell chips. NVIDIA has made several strategic investments lately, including a $5 billion investment in Intel and a $900 million license of AI technology from startup Enfabrica. OpenAI has also formed other partnerships, including a deal with Oracle to build out 4.5 gigawatts of data center capacity using more than 2 million Oracle chips, as part of The Stargate Project, a broader initiative to invest $500 billion in the US on AI infrastructure.
