Amazon is bringing its Starlink alternative to Australia next year
Amazon has announced an agreement with Australia's National Broadband Network Company (NBN Co) to provide satellite internet to more than 300,000 eligible customers across the country by mid-2026. This partnership is the first major deal for Amazon's Project Kuiper, which aims to compete with SpaceX's Starlink satellite internet service. While Starlink already has over 8,000 satellites in orbit and serves more than 100 countries, Project Kuiper is still in its early stages, with only 78 satellites launched so far. Amazon plans to build a constellation of 3,236 satellites and expects to begin delivering service to customers in late 2025, though details on pricing and consumer hardware have not yet been revealed. The partnership with NBN Co represents Amazon's commitment to addressing Australia's unique connectivity challenges through innovation and collaboration.
