21 years later, Meta still hasn't given up on the Facebook 'poke'

Meta, formerly Facebook, is still trying to revive the "poke" feature, 21 years after it was first introduced on the social network. The company is making the poke feature more prominent by adding it back to user profiles in the Facebook app and creating a dedicated website to track poke-related activity. The poke feature was a novelty in the early days of Facebook, allowing users to interact with their friends in a simple, albeit often considered creepy or flirty, way. While the feature never really went away, it was de-emphasized over the years and largely forgotten by users. Now, Meta is trying to build momentum for the poke feature, presumably to appeal to a younger generation of Facebook users who are accustomed to taking their "Snap streaks" seriously. This effort aligns with the company's broader mission to win over "young adults" and bring back more "OG" Facebook features, as stated by CEO Mark Zuckerberg.
