Amazon will start dispensing prescription drugs through vending machines
Amazon is expanding its healthcare offerings by introducing Amazon Pharmacy Kiosks in One Medical practices in the greater Los Angeles area. The vending machines will allow One Medical customers to pick up their prescription medications immediately after their appointment, with plans to expand the service to other locations in the near future. The goal is to combat the high percentage of people who never fill their prescriptions by making the medications more accessible. Customers can request pickup through the Amazon app, and most medications will be available within minutes. The service is available to those with an Amazon Pharmacy account who visit a participating One Medical location. Upfront costs and available deductions will be displayed in the app, and customers can consult with an Amazon Pharmacy pharmacist if needed. The vending machines will stock common medications like antibiotics, inhalers, and blood pressure medications, but not controlled substances or items requiring refrigeration. One Medical subscriptions usually cost $9 per month or $99 annually for Prime members, or $199 for everyone else. Amazon is currently offering a $30 discount on Prime memberships. Virtual appointments are also available for a one-time fee, but using the Amazon Pharmacy Kiosk requires an in-person visit during the launch period.
