Venus Williams, 45, will be oldest US Open singles entrant in 44 years

Venus Williams, a seven-time Grand Slam champion, will return to Grand Slam singles competition at the upcoming US Open. At 45 years old, she will be the oldest singles entrant at the tournament in 44 years, since Renee Richards played there at 47 in 1981. Williams, who last competed in a Grand Slam singles event in 2023, has received a wildcard invitation to play at Flushing Meadows. This will mark the veteran's comeback to the sport's biggest stage after a two-year absence.
