Raspberry Pi’s newest HAT holds an itty-bitty M.2 SSD
Raspberry Pi, a popular single-board computer, has released a new Hardware on Top (HAT) add-on board that includes an M.2 SSD slot. The new HAT allows users to easily expand the storage of their Raspberry Pi devices by adding a compact 2230 (30mm) M.2 SSD, the same size used in the Steam Deck. This new HAT is smaller than Raspberry Pi's previous M.2 HAT, which accommodated larger 42mm drives. The compact size of the new HAT means it can be installed within the official Raspberry Pi case, or other compatible cases, without interfering with other connections. The new HAT+ Compact variant fits directly into the Raspberry Pi 5's FPC connection, making it a straightforward addition to most Raspberry Pi builds. While the 30mm M.2 drives tend to be more expensive than other options, the new HAT provides a convenient way to significantly increase the storage capacity of Raspberry Pi devices.
