Apple is reportedly considering using Gemini, a Google-trained AI model, to power the revamped version of its virtual assistant, Siri. The company is currently developing two versions of the new Siri: one powered by its own models (Linwood) and another using outside technology (Glenwood). While Apple has been working on improving Siri, it has faced difficulties and delays in rolling out the new AI features, originally planned for iOS 18. The company is now exploring partnerships with OpenAI and Anthropic, in addition to the potential Gemini integration. Using a version of Gemini that can run on Apple's servers could provide an additional layer of security, and put Apple in a similar position to Samsung, which uses a mix of custom models and Gemini for its Galaxy AI. However, a final decision has not yet been made, and Apple may ultimately stick with its internally-developed models.
