Fifa not planning 64-team men’s World Cup despite Infantino’s Trump Tower summit

Fifa, the world's governing body for football, is not planning to expand the men's World Cup to 64 teams for the centenary edition of the tournament in 2030, despite recent discussions. Fifa President Gianni Infantino met with a group of South American leaders, including the presidents of Uruguay, Paraguay, Argentina, and the Conmebol confederation, at Fifa's offices in Trump Tower, New York, to discuss the proposal. The idea was initially raised by the Uruguayan Football Association at a Fifa Council meeting in March. However, Fifa is likely to face significant opposition from member associations if it were to pursue a 64-team World Cup format, which would be a significant departure from the current 32-team structure.
