In the span of a week, travelers can admire flamingos at high-altitude lagoons, wander the white-washed streets of Sucre, cruise Lake Titicaca, and stand on the seemingly endless white expanse of the Uyuni Salt Flats. It's also a country where getting from one place to another is often part of the adventure—a reality that has become more complicated after more than a month of protests, roadblocks, and transportation disruptions across parts of the country. For travelers with upcoming trips, operators say Bolivia remains open to visitors and most major tourism experiences are continuing as planned. The bigger challenge isn't safety, but transportation. La Paz is where travel will be most affected; outside the city, most tourist itineraries are continuing as planned. However, transport between locations within Bolivia could still face disruptions. That assessment is largely reflected in government advisories. Bolivia as a whole remains under a Level 2 "Exercise Increased Caution" advisory from the US State Department due to crime, civil unrest, and limitations in health services.
