Teenager faces attempted murder charge after police injured

An 18-year-old man has appeared in court charged with attempted murder and a string of road traffic offences in Hamilton. Cruz McCready faces 10 charges after an incident on Tuesday morning at about 09:30, when two police officers approached and spoke to the occupants of a car on Fleming Way. He is alleged to have driven off before being involved in a collision with a stationary vehicle. Two officers and a 22-year-old male passenger were injured during the incident and taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. McCready left the scene but was later traced and arrested. He entered no plea at Hamilton Sheriff Court and will appear again within the next eight days. McCready is charged with two counts of attempted murder and five counts related to the Road Traffic Act, including causing serious injury via dangerous driving and not possessing a valid driving licence. He is also facing two charges of possessing drugs and a further charge regarding resisting or obstructing police. Copyright 2026 BBC. All rights reserved.
