Warwickshire driver found driving without licence for 48 years

A car has been seized after police found the driver had been on the road for "nearly 48 years without a valid licence". Warwickshire Police said the BMW 520d was intercepted by officers on the A444 Jimmy Hill Way near Bedworth. It said the driver, a 64-year-old man, had first applied for his provisional licence in September 1978, but had never taken or passed a driving test. The force reported the man, who was not supervised or using L plates, for driving other than in accordance with a licence. Follow BBC Coventry & Warwickshire on BBC Sounds, Facebook, X and Instagram. Three people have been released on bail and police believe they have the driver in custody. A man and woman, both from Nuneaton, will appear in court in October. Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council's policy is updated but still needs full council's approval. Warwickshire Police welcome shoplifting figures after reported thefts rise by 10%.
