The zombie flick is projected to earn $40M – $50M during its opening weekend this September — an amount that would make it the most financially successful opening weekend for any Resident Evil movie ever released in theaters. For comparison, the highest amount earned during an opening weekend for a Resident Evil movie was for Resident Evil: Afterlife, which netted $26,650,26 when it opened in 2010. Resident Evil: Apocalypse and Resident Evil: Extinction both earned around $23 million during their opening weekends. The original RE movie, released in 2002, scored $17.7 million for its opening weekend, with the lowest amount going to 2021’s Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City.
