Google's new Nest Doorbell and Nest Cams have 2K video and new AI chops
Google has unveiled a trio of new Nest security cameras, including the Nest Cam Indoor (3rd gen), Nest Cam Outdoor (2nd gen), and Nest Doorbell (3rd gen). The latest devices feature higher-resolution (2K HDR) video and a wider field of view, providing better image quality and new AI-powered features. The Nest Cams have a resolution of 2,560 x 1,400 with a 152-degree diagonal field of view, while the Nest Doorbell uses a 2,048 x 2,048 sensor with a 166-degree field of view. All three support up to 6x digital zoom, and Google claims they offer 120% more light sensitivity than their predecessors, allowing them to stay in full-color mode longer at dawn and dusk. The new cameras also come with enhanced AI capabilities, including a chatbot feature called "Ask Home" that can provide information and perform smart home tasks, and a "Home Brief" feature that generates AI-powered summaries of daily activities. These AI features, however, require a Google Home Premium subscription. The Nest Cam Indoor, Nest Cam Outdoor, and Nest Doorbell are now available for purchase at the Google Store and through retail partners, priced at $100, $150, and $180, respectively.
