Woman dies in hospital after being found following major search

A woman has died in hospital after she was found following an air, sea and land search in southern Scotland. Nancy Hill, 81, from Kirkcudbright, was reported missing on Monday night after her silver Citroen Picasso was discovered in the car park at Dhoon beach. Police Scotland confirmed Hill was located on Tuesday and taken to Dumfries and Galloway hospital, where she later died. A force spokesperson said her family were aware. The RNLI say the rescue may have been a "very different outcome" for the adults and three children. The Genesis fishing boat struck rocks off the west coast of the island of Hoy and issued a mayday call at about 06:30. The bodies of two teenage boys and a teenage girl have been recovered from the water, police say. Specialist teams have been attending the scene after it was discovered by a novice detectorist. Police, coastguard rescues crews and a coastguard helicopter were deployed after being alerted on Sunday morning. Copyright 2026 BBC. All rights reserved.
