Amazon’s Ring now works with video surveillance company Flock

Amazon's Ring smart doorbell company has partnered with Flock, an AI-powered surveillance camera company. Through this partnership, local US law enforcement agencies using Flock's platforms can request video footage from Ring users in the Neighbors app. The request must include details about an alleged crime, its time and location, and a unique investigation code. Ring users can choose to participate in the Community Request program, which is optional, and can turn off notifications for these requests. While Ring has discontinued its Request for Assistance feature, it still allows for the warrantless granting of data during what it considers "emergencies." This partnership raises concerns about the increasing integration of private surveillance systems with law enforcement, potentially leading to expanded surveillance and data sharing without proper safeguards.
