Apple warns of more feature delays in Europe

Apple has warned that it will have to delay bringing some product features to Europe due to difficulties in making them compliant with the EU's Digital Markets Act (DMA). The company cites the DMA's requirement to open Apple features to third-party devices as the primary reason for the delays. Features impacted include AI-powered Live Translation for AirPods, iPhone Mirroring, and Visited Places and Preferred Routes on Apple Maps. Apple claims it has not found a way to make these features available on non-Apple devices without compromising user data security and privacy. However, Apple has made some progress in other areas, such as the introduction of a "notification forwarding" feature in the latest iOS 26.1 beta, which will allow iPhone notifications to be displayed on non-Apple devices. The company is also working on making it easier to pair iPhones with third-party accessories. Despite its ongoing opposition to the DMA, Apple insists that it is "spending thousands of hours" to comply with the law's requirements. The company has warned that the "list of delayed features in the EU will probably get longer" due to these impediments, and it faces the risk of additional fines if it fails to open up most of these features by the end of the year.
