Post-ministerial jobs watchdog closes as part of UK government ethics shake-up

The UK government is undertaking a major restructuring of its ethics and integrity framework, which includes the closure of the Advisory Committee on Business Appointments (Acoba). Acoba, a watchdog that oversees the post-ministerial jobs of former UK ministers, has faced criticism for its lack of enforcement power. As part of the shake-up, Acoba's functions will be split between two existing regulators. Additionally, a new Ethics and Integrity Commission will be established to oversee the ethics of other government officials. The changes aim to strengthen the oversight and enforcement of ethics rules in the UK government.
