Indonesia suspends TikTok’s operating licence for allegedly withholding data

Indonesia has temporarily suspended TikTok's operating license in the country, citing the platform's failure to fully cooperate with a request for data during nationwide protests in August. The government alleges that TikTok only provided partial data, violating national laws. The protests were sparked by anger over the state of the economy, police brutality, and government policies. TikTok voluntarily suspended its live feature during the unrest to maintain a "safe and civil space." The app has over 100 million users in Indonesia. The suspension will last until TikTok complies with the government's data request, which includes information related to traffic, streaming, and monetization. TikTok has said it respects the laws of the countries it operates in and is working with the digital ministry to resolve the issue.
