OpenAI suspends Sora depictions of Martin Luther King Jr. following a request from his family
OpenAI has suspended the ability to generate videos of Martin Luther King Jr. on its Sora app, following a request from King's estate. The company acknowledged that some users had created disrespectful depictions of the civil rights leader, and it has worked with the estate to address how his "likeness is represented in Sora generations." The decision comes after the daughter of Robin Williams and the daughter of Malcolm X spoke out against the use of their fathers' likenesses in AI-generated content. While OpenAI recognizes the "strong free speech interests in depicting historical figures," it believes that public figures and their families should have control over how their likenesses are used. The company has stated that the estates of other historical figures can also request their likenesses not to be used in Sora videos.
