Norwayâs Crown Princess Mette-Marit has been placed on a waiting list for a transplant due to âlife-threatening chronic lung disease,â the countryâs royal household has announced. The 52-year-old princess will not be able to fulfil her duties as a working member of the royal family, according to a press statement issued by the palace on Friday. The princess, who is married to the heir to the Norwegian throne, Haakon, was diagnosed with pulmonary fibrosis, a chronic progressive lung disease with a poor prognosis, in 2018. âThe progression of The Crown Princessâs lung disease is serious,â Are Holm, a consultant lung specialist at Osloâs Rikshospitalet, said in the statement. âFollowing a comprehensive medical assessment, she has now been placed on the waiting list for patients who will undergo a lung transplant as soon as a suitable donor becomes available.â The palace said that while Mette-Marit waits for a donor she will be unable to carry out official engagements.
