The robot, developed by Ant's subsidiary Robbyant, has been showcased performing tasks like cooking shrimp. Ant Group claims R1 could have various applications, including as a companion or caregiver robot in healthcare, or as a robotic tour guide in the travel industry. However, the company has not announced a launch date or price point for the bot, and it is currently undergoing testing in community centers and restaurants. While the field of AI-powered robotics has faced challenges in the past, Ant Group's R1 joins a growing number of companies, including Elon Musk's Tesla, that are investing in this technology, with the hope that recent software advances will help overcome past limitations.
