Amazon Luna is absorbing Prime Gaming and getting controller-free games in the process
Amazon Luna, the company's game streaming service, is undergoing an update. The service will now offer "GameNight," a collection of social party games that can be played using just a smartphone, without the need for a controller. This move aims to lower the barrier to entry for users intimidated by traditional controllers. Additionally, Amazon is folding its Prime Gaming brand into Luna. Prime Gaming previously offered benefits like free Twitch emotes, monthly PC games, and a free Twitch subscription. These benefits will now be available as part of the Luna service. The update also includes the addition of new high-profile games, such as Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, Kingdom Come: Deliverance II, and Dave the Diver. However, these games will require a controller, either Amazon's Luna Controller or a Bluetooth controller connected to the Luna app. The changes suggest that Amazon is prioritizing Luna as its primary gaming project, despite not having the library of Xbox Cloud Gaming and an uncertain commitment to streaming compared to Microsoft.
