When Sae Joon Park orders pancakes and walks past soldiers in uniform, hearing a language he hasnât spoken regularly since selfâdeporting from the United States last summer, it feels â for a few hours â like heâs home. Instead, heâs thousands of miles away, behind the guarded gates of Camp Humphreys, a US Army garrison south of South Koreaâs capital Seoul with a sprawling campus of chain restaurants, housing blocks and training grounds. âWhen Iâm on base, it actually feels like Iâm in America,â says the 56âyearâold Army veteran, who returned to his country of birth last June, a place he had not lived since he was a child.
