Man charged after boy stabbed at Barry Island has leg amputated

A man has appeared in court after a 17-year-old boy who was stabbed at Barry Island had to have his lower leg amputated. Idris Ahmed, from Riverside, Cardiff, is charged with wounding with intent and possession of a knife following the incident on 25 May. Ahmed, dressed in a grey sweatshirt, spoke only to confirm his name and address during the hearing before Cardiff magistrates on Saturday. "This matter relates to a very serious incident, where the victim sustained a serious stab wound resulting in the amputation of his lower leg beneath the knee," said Angharad Jones, prosecuting. "The offence was in a public place on a very busy Bank Holiday with hundreds of people around." Defending, Ellis Worsley said the defendant denied being involved. Ahmed was remanded into custody to appear before a judge at Cardiff Crown Court on 3 July. South Wales Police is continuing to investigate the incident and said the victim was critical care at Cardiff's University Hospital of Wales.
