A potent, multi-day storm continues to lash Hawaii with heavy rain into the weekend, prompting flood alerts in a state still recovering from devastating floods in March. A flood watch for all Hawaiian islands was issued early Saturday morning and will extend through Monday afternoon, as flash flooding caused by excessive rainfall remains possible, according to the Oahu Department of Emergency Management. Over a monthâs worth of rain has fallen from the stormâs most intense conditions so far. Lihue Airport picked up over 2 inches of rain on Thursday, which is more than its entire April average. Rainfall totals over 6 inches are widespread in Kauaiâs mountains, led by 14.80 inches at Mount Waialeale. A disturbance approaching from the northwest is expected to renew deep tropical moisture across all Hawaiian islands starting late Saturday. Given the already saturated soils and elevated stream levels, flooding may redevelop quickly, officials warned.
