A PlayStation photography book featuring never-before-seen design concepts is on the way

Sony is celebrating the 30th anniversary of PlayStation by releasing a photography book showcasing "never-before-seen prototypes, concept sketches and design models" from the early days to the current PS5 era. The book, titled "PlayStation: The First 30 Years," is a 400-page hardback printed on heavyweight matt art stock, weighing in at 5kg (11lbs). The book offers a fascinating glimpse at some of the designs Sony experimented with for its hardware over the last few decades, including an early concept design for the original PlayStation and a peculiar PlayStation controller concept. Additionally, Sony has teamed up with Reebok to release a collection of 30th anniversary sneakers styled after the PS1, available in October. The book is available in two editions, a standard version for $182 and a deluxe edition with a limited run of 1994 copies (the year the PS1 debuted in Japan) for $467, both shipping in spring 2026.
