MotoE, the electric bike world championship, is going on hiatus due to lack of interest
The International Motorcycling Federation (FIM) and MotoGP have announced the suspension of the FIM MotoE World Championship, the electric bike world championship, following the 2025 season. The organizations cite a lack of viewership and an electric performance motorcycle market that "has not developed as expected." Despite efforts to promote the innovative category, the objectives were not met, and the industry associated with performance electric bikes has not become relevant enough to sustain a robust event schedule. MotoE's inaugural year was in 2019, and it had some initial buzz, but the event schedule was cut back from 16 eight-round races to seven rounds in 2025. Ducati provided the race bikes for all teams in the MotoE class after replacing Energica Ego Corsa in 2023, with the electric bikes reaching top speeds of 171 MPH, compared to 224 MPH for traditional MotoGP bikes.
